It has been a wonderful month so far with beautiful weather and many fun trips. The high-school students have been going on field trips to the beach, the Palace, the Power Plant, the prison, the provincial museum and many more places. They have had a great time and learned many things along the way. Thank you to all the students for their great behavior and to all the staff and parents that made this possible.

Srithammaratsuksa School English Programme was honouring Sunthorn Phu, Thailand’s best-known royal poet in the Rattanakosin era, on June 22, 2012.
“Sunthorn Phu, also known as Phra Sunthorn Vohara is Thailand’s best-known royal poet whose imaginative works rise to its present heights in the Rattanakosin period.
Sunthorn Phu’s career as a royal poet began in the reign of King Rama II, and ended in the reign of King Rama III, where he worked as a royal scribe until the last days of his life.
He was particularly renowned for composing verse, and his most memorable works include Nirat Phukaothong, Nirat Suphan, and the Phra Aphai Mani saga. His most epic tale, Phra Aphai Mani, follows the titular character, Prince Aphai Mani, a Byronic hero, in his romantic adventures throughout ancient Thailand.
After his death, Sunthorn Phu left an insurmountable legacy of poems that have become famous over time because of their description of Thai history, which led to Sunthorn Phu becoming established as the Thai Poet Laureate.”
Activities of the event included the performance of “Ka Ki” by students of grade 10 – 12, Phee Sur Samut (Giant Sea) Contest, and writing poems commemorating Sunthorn Phu.
The first full 5 weeks of school have come on really fast. We have had several special events, meetings, pre-tests and holidays! We hope everyone enjoyed “Visakh Bucha Day” and enjoyed the experience of the thousands of candles circling the famous “Wat Pramatat” temple here in Nakorn Srithammarat.

In Thailand, Wai Kru Day is a special day where students pay respect to their teachers. It is a beautiful ceremony with flowers, speeches, songs and poems. This year was exceptionally nice with wonderful weather and a beautiful ceremony organized by the grade 12 students themselves. We had many special guests attend the ceremony. Some of our retired teachers from joined us at the new English Programme campus. All of the new NES teachers were given flowers and welcomed by both students and older teachers. It was truly a wonderful ceremony enjoyed by all. Please see our photo gallery for a glimpse of this precious event.
Srithammarat also just finished our Christian Teachers Retreat Weekend. It was a nice time at the beach to relax and get to know one another better and worship together.
Time is going by fast and we are well underway. The first Evaluation Period (EV 1) is coming up in the next few weeks. We encourage all students to stay on top of their studies and any parents or students with questions to contact your homeroom teachers.
